by Elyse Derian | Jun 26, 2023 | Self-care

“Mommy this is the best day ever!!” My four-year-old shouted while wiping the sticky popsicle drippings across her face. It was the first hot week of summer in Texas, and our day involved the norm – a slow morning followed by play dates, swimming with friends and a...

But Why Her God? The Challenge of Following Jesus When It Feels Like We’re Missing Out

by Elyse Derian | May 5, 2023 | Spiritual Growth

One of the most captivating scenes in the gospel of John is at the closing in Chapter 21. It’s after the resurrection, and Jesus is spending time with his disciples, eating breakfast. How surreal that must have felt! They were dining with their Savior they thought was...

I’m a morning person. I love waking up before the sun to get a workout in, spend some time with God, and fill my bucket before my kids start making their way down the stairs. It’s a gift to start the day ready to face what God has for me. I’m ready to love my family...

Most of us don’t set out to love conditionally. We Most of us don’t set out to love conditionally.
We simply learn it along the way.

But the heart of God reveals a different kind of love—
one that initiates, sacrifices, and stays present,
even when nothing is being returned.

Christlike love doesn’t keep score.
It flows from remembering how deeply we’ve been loved first.

This is the love God is forming in us. 🤍

Our culture often defines love by how it feels. B Our culture often defines love by how it feels.

But the love God invites us into is deeper than emotion—it’s faithful, sacrificial, and rooted in His character.

Real love isn’t something we manufacture through effort or willpower.
It’s something we learn as we receive God’s love first.

When we are filled by Him, love begins to shape the way we show up—in our marriages, our motherhood, and our everyday relationships.

Some nights the house is quiet, but our minds won’ Some nights the house is quiet,
but our minds won’t rest.

Questions loop.
Worries linger.
And we feel the weight of wanting to fix what’s out of our control.

In today’s blog, Sue McAlinden reminds us of a freeing truth:
God never intended for us to parent alone.

The heart of God is compassionate toward our limits.
He invites us to trust Him before we’re worn out.

If parenting feels heavy right now,
this reflection is for you. 🤍

Loving the people closest to us can feel harder th Loving the people closest to us can feel harder than loving anyone else.

Not because we don’t care—but because pressure, exhaustion, and stress reshape how love comes out.

This has been part of my own journey, learning that real change doesn’t start with trying harder.

It starts with staying close to Jesus and letting His love shape how we respond at home.

If this feels familiar, you’re not failing. You’re learning.
