♀️ Her Story & Calling
How has motherhood shaped your relationship with God?
Being a mom has brought clarity for me in understanding how much God loves me. I know I can’t fully grasp it, but I used to struggle with the idea that God cared about my “little” problems. Caring for my boys has shown me how much God truly does care — that my concerns matter to Him and that He wants me to come to Him with even the smallest of things.
What part of your identity have you had to rediscover (or release) in this season?
My husband and I have been involved in ministry since college — really right out of high school. In this season, pouring into my boys is my main ministry, which is extremely hard for me because my husband is a youth pastor, and I’m used to being right alongside him. This is the first time I don’t have a small group of high schoolers. Even though we’re still around the youth ministry as a family, my main focus is my boys, even on youth nights. I’m constantly reminding myself that I’m still doing the Lord’s work, and in time, He will show me my place — whether back in youth ministry or in another area of the church. For now, my role is to be there for my boys and mentor them through childhood until God shows me what’s next.
Is there a Scripture that’s grounding you right now?
I’m constantly going back to Colossians 3. I love the Amplified version, but in The Message it says, “…and whatever else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” I love that. The whole passage is such a great encouragement to represent our new life in Christ and to remember the constant renewal that’s taking place within us.
Verse 12 reminds us to “put on” compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. I feel like I need to read this EVERY DAY because I need to be reminded to act this way toward my husband and kids — and everyone else too!
The last part, verses 15–17, reminds us to “let the peace of Christ be the controlling factor in your hearts” and to “do everything in the name of the Lord (and in dependence on Him).” Even if all I do in a day is be a mom and put out sibling rivalry fires, I love this reminder to pause and ask the Lord to guide my words and actions — to depend on His strength, not my own.
️Faith in the Everyday
What does quiet time look like for you lately? Messy, sacred, or both?
Definitely messy. I learned a while back that the main way I connect with the Lord is through admiration -worship-. That’s really important to me — to take a moment of praise, which usually leads into prayer or digging into Scripture. A lot of times, I find myself looking up Scripture throughout the day. I think it’s super important to set aside time, but as a mom, that’s not ALWAYS going to happen. God wants our time no matter when it is. So when I do have a free moment, I try to spend it with the Lord instead of scrolling or doing something else. It’s definitely a daily choice because doing something “mind-dumbing” instead can be tempting — but it’s so rewarding to foster a relationship with the Lord.
How do you see God show up in the ordinary moments of your day?
I see God move all the time! I think it’s just about acknowledging it. We can say things are coincidences, or we can believe that God is looking out for us. He always has a shaded parking spot for me on hot summer days, and I always say, “God loves me so much!”
What prayer have you been praying most often?
Lately, I’ve been thanking God for our health — He’s brought so much healing. I’m constantly praying for my boys’ minds to dwell on things that are true, lovely, and good — and for myself too. Their salvation has been heavy on my heart — that they would always walk as children of God. I’ve also been praying for my siblings who are far from Christ, that He would move in their lives in such a way that they can’t deny His reality, and that they’d be surrounded by people who love the Lord and show them His love.
Grace Over Perfection
When was a recent moment you had to give yourself (or your kids) grace?
Recently, I’ve had to let the house go so I could rest. Giving myself grace for not having a clean house because I needed a nap on my day off is OK! I think, lol. I’m still learning to give myself grace in this area.
What would you say to the mom who feels like she’s not doing enough?
There’s no way we can do it all. All we can give is our best — and best believe God’s got the rest! He fills in the gaps and uses everything for His glory. Pray that He does just that in the areas where you struggle, and then walk in peace knowing He has it covered.
What’s something God is gently teaching you right now?
Self-control with my mouth. My New Year’s resolution was to speak POSITIVELY… well, it’s almost the end of the year, and I think I might have to keep the same one for next year! I’ve gone from hyper-critical to just highly critical, so I did improve some.
Wisdom & Legacy
What do you want your children to remember most about you?
That I love to worship the Lord — and that I showed them His love.
What’s one truth you return to when things feel heavy?
God uses everything for His glory. He’s gotten us through before, and He’ll do it again.
Finish this sentence: “Being a mom with faith means…
Doing my best and trusting the Lord to take care of the rest.
Favorite Scripture or Prayer
Colossians 3:15–17 (Amplified)
Let the peace of Christ (the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him) be the controlling factor in your hearts (deciding and settling questions that arise). To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body (of believers). And be thankful (to God always).
Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you (dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being) as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
